M4 lanes re-open after multi-vehicle crash
Drivers are still experiencing severe delays - reports of up to one hour - on the M4 eastbound at junction seven (Slough) and junction eight (Maidenhead) following the incident, which involved a motorcycle and three cars.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, Roger Eustis, confirmed tailbacks stemmed to junction 10 at Wokingham.
However, a spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police, Rhianne Pope, said that congestion should reduce following the reopening of the carriageway at 12:30pm.
The westbound carriageway was also temporarily closed while both the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed, shortly after 8:30am.
A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) James Keating-Wilkes, said that the motorcyclist, a 30-year-old male, was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries, including leg injuries.
He added that a further incident involving a van and a car at the same location, believed to have stemmed from the traffic caused by the first incident, was also attended by a rapid response vehicle and a double manned ambulance at approximately 8:45.
The driver of the van, a 21-year-old male, was taken to Wexham Park Hospital with facial injuries.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, James Wright, confirmed that the accident had caused oil and fuel to be spilt onto the road.
He said: "A large amount of oil and fuel on the eastbound carriageway needs to be cleared before we can get traffic flowing."
Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes.
