M4 Reading re-opened after earlier incident

Teenager taken to hospital with life threatening injuries

THE M4 at Reading has re-opened following an incident earlier this evening (Fri).

According to Thames Valley Police (TVP), the M4 between junctions 11 and 12 was re-opened at 7.30pm, after police were called at 4.53pm.

The carriageway was closed earlier this evening after a collision westbound involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, police have confirmed.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) sent an air ambulance to the scene.

A spokesman said the ambulance service was called at 8.35pm after a report that a 19-year-old man had fallen from an overpass at Reading Services onto the westbound carriageway of the M4 and had then been involved in a collision with a vehicle.

A rapid response vehicle, ambulance, two paramedics and air ambulance was sent to the scene.

The man was taken by road to the John Radcliffe hospital, Oxford, accompanied by the air ambulance crew, travelling in the ambulance.

The incident caused severe traffic disruption with drivers advised to avoid the area.
