Major incident in Kingsclere
Police won't tell us what is going on. An officer told me to stay inside my home - eyewitness
VILLAGERS in Kingsclere were being told to stay in their houses this morning (Tuesday) as police dealt with a major incident.
Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman, Vicky O'Hare, confirmed that police were dealing with an incident in Longcroft Road, having received a call at about 7.45am, although she said she could not release any more details.
An eyewitness told Newburytoday.co.uk: "It started about ten to eight with the sirens, just one after the other. Every car coming into the road was a police car. Their dog handlers are here, an ambulance, but no-one seems to know.
"Police won't tell us what is going on. An officer told me to stay inside my home.
"It's a massive incident.”
She said neighbours had called each other but nobody could work out what was happening.
Another eyewitness told Newburytoday.co.uk that they couldn't believe how many police were on the scene, including riot vans and an armed response unit, describing it as "very rare" in the "quiet and peaceful" neighbourhood.
She said: “You don't expect to see something like this, especially in such a friendly neighbourhood.”
Meanwhile, another local resident added that children on their way to school this morning had to go past the large police cordon surrounding the area.
Shortly before 10am the cordon was taken down and police vacated the area.
More details to follow.
