Major roadworks to commence on A4 in Newbury

The work is expected to take five nights and the road will be closed between 7pm and 11pm while work is carried out.
Temporary traffic lights will also be erected on the A4 where it meets the A339 to help control the flow of traffic through the roundabout while the road is being re-surfaced. Pamela Bale, West Berkshire Council executive member for highways and transport, said: “The council is making every effort to minimise disruption during these essential works by arranging the closures during the evening period.
“However, there is bound to be some impact on traffic flow, therefore we are advising drivers to consider alternative routes while the work is ongoing.”
The Oxford Road, both north and south of the roundabout, will be closed and a diversion will be in place.
Each half of the roundabout will be worked on separately so it will not be fully closed at any time during the works, but there will be no access around the roundabout during these times.
Both North and South Oxford Road junctions and the roundabout itself will be open on the night of Friday, October 3.
A section of the A4 Western Avenue will be resurfaced on Friday, October 3 for which the eastern A4 exit from the roundabout will be closed through to the Robin Hood gyratory (A339) in both directions; traffic will be diverted via London Road and Oxford Road.
