Major town centre roadworks start today (Mon)





Station Road at the junction with the A339 will be closed from 8am today until the project to carry out maintenance work on the Newbury rail bridge is completed at the end of September.
An alternative access route to the station will be in place via St John’s Road.
There will be further disruption on March 9 when lane narrowing and a mandatory 30mph speed limit will be introduced across the A339 bridge, along with a series of overnight road closures from 9pm until 6am on weekdays and 9pm until 8am on weekends.
The maintenance work, which is expected to cost £1.5 million, includes brickwork replacement, concrete repairs and heightening safety barriers along the bridge to coincide with the future electrification of the line.
The A339 work will take place at the same time as intermittent roadworks on Boundary Road for three weeks while utilities are connected for the new homes at The Racecourse Newbury.
