Discover the magic of eco-friendly silver clay

Emma Roy is local jeweller specialising in working with silver clay, also known as precious metal clay, an eco-friendly material. The product is made with recycled silver that is mixed with an organic binder and water. When it is fired the binder burns away and all that is left is pure silver.

Emma has built her own successful brand Jewellery by Emma Roy and has been teaching workshops in the Newbury area for the past year and has just moved in to her own art studio in the Old Telephone Exchange at Hermitage, where from September she will be offering fine silver jewellery workshops and courses, and working with other local artists to provide collaboration workshops too.

Silver clay is made from silver, recycled from various sources such as the medical and communication industries. The recycled silver is refined into tiny particles and mixed with an organic, non toxic binder. This malleable material can then be shaped and sculpted and even used to capture real pieces of nature, using techniques that you can learn on a Silver Clay Academy Workshop.

When the clay is dried, it is then fired using either a special kiln or a torch. during this process the binder is burned away leaving pure or fine silver.

The piece is polished to leave a beautiful piece of jewellery for you to treasure forever.
