Newbury Malayalee Cultural Association raises hundreds of pounds for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria for Oxfam and the Disaster Emergency Committee
A Newbury community group has raised just shy of £1,000 in aid of earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
The Newbury Malayalee Cultural Association (NMCA) held a coffee morning to raise awareness and money for Oxfam and the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC).
The NMCA are a group of friends who have come together to raise money for people affected by the earthquake that shook southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria on February 4.
The group managed to collect £963.58 – all of which went to Oxfam.
Traditional Indian and English snacks were shared and enjoyed as people came together to support those who were affected by the natural disaster.
NMCA member Kurien Philip said: “Thank you Newbury for your support in aid of the Oxfam-DEC Syria Turkey earthquake appeal.
“It was a great event with an excellent turnout.
“We had a lot of traditional Indian snacks along with English muffins, cakes and tea.”
“With your support we were able to collect £963.58.
“All proceeds were handed over to Oxfam.
“A big thank you to all who participated.”
