Man, 19, arrested after another teenager dies in head-on collision in Great Shefford




A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving while drunk or on drugs after another teenager died in a head-on collision in Great Shefford.

The collision involving a silver Ford Ecosport and a Suzuki motorcycle on the B4000 Ermin Street at the junction with the A338 happened at 6.53pm yesterday (Friday).

The Ford was travelling eastbound and the Suzuki was travelling westbound.

The rider of the Suzuki motorcycle – a man in his late teens – died at the scene.

His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by police officers.

A 19-year-old man from Cornwall has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed limit for alcohol, driving while over a specified drug limit, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and suspicion of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He remains in custody.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Robert Chevalier said: “Firstly, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family of the man who sadly died in this collision.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this to please get in touch.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to please check their dash cam footage, in case they captured the collision or the moments leading up to it.
