The 32-year-old, of Sowerby Street, Thatcham, is charged with engaging in sex with the girl when he did not reasonably believe she was aged 16 or over in Newbury on a specific date this year.

District judge Samuel Goozee adjourned the case until a later date when Mr Griffin, who was legally represented by Gianpaolo Damiani, will be expected to enter a plea to the single charge.

Mr Griffin was meanwhile denied and was remanded in custody.
