The 54-year-old, who lives in The Crescent, Theale, is accused of dishonestly failing to disclose previous convictions, which he had a legal obligation to do, to Lee Blackall of DGS Ltd in Reading on July 6, 2021, in order to gain employment.

Mr Sears, who was legally represented by Adonis Daniel, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it was being adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

District judge Samuel Goozee meanwhile released Mr Sears on unconditional bail.
