The 42-year-old, of Lynton Court off Pelican Lane, Newbury, admitted assaulting Caroline Charlesworth by beating her.

Next, he pleaded guilty to assaulting Thomas Bickley by beating him.

Finally, Gregory admitted intentionally strangling Thomas Bickley.

All the above offences were committed in Newbury on February 21.

Magistrates declined further jurisdiction, deeming that their own powers of punishment could be insufficient.

They therefore sent the case to be sentenced by a judge sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

Gregory was meanwhile released on bail with conditions.
