Man, aged 61, attacked in car in Pangbourne

The victim suffered a black right eye, two cuts to his right cheek and a swollen nose during the assault

THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted while sat in his car in Pangbourne.

The incident occurred at about 4.50pm last Wednesday (January 11) in the car park behind the Co-op store in High Street.

A 61-year-old man was parking his grey BMW pick-up in the car-park when a man driving a dark coloured Vauxhall Astra van, with a W reg, parked in a space opposite and walked over towards him.

When he reached the victim's open driver's side window he started to punch him in the face, striking him up to four times. He only stopped the attack when the victim punched back, knocking off the offender's glasses.

The Vauxhall Astra driver then got back into his van and drove off.

The victim suffered a black right eye, two cuts to his right cheek and a swollen nose, but did not need medical treatment.

Police believe the assault was as a result of an earlier incident involving the two vehicles on a mini-roundabout next to the Co-op, just minutes before.

Investigating officer PC Jen Banfield is appealing for anyone who saw the incident, recognises the description of the vehicle, or who knows who the offender is, to come forward.

If you can help, please call PC Banfield via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
