Man airlifted to hospital after scaffolding collapse at Newbury building site
The man has been airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening, according to South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) spokeswoman, Michelle Archer.
The man had been trapped under scaffolding 35 feet up a building under construction in West Street and was rescued by crews from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) with the use of a heavy rescue vehicle.
A regional spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive, Paul Butler, said they were aware of the incident and were making enquiries.
He added that it "may well" turn into a formal investigation - but couldn't say for definite at this "early stage".
Four fire engines, three ambulances and police all attended the incident at the building site off West Street.
Thames Valley Police has confirmed that West Street has now reopened, following earlier closure.
