Man appears in court charged with death of Great Shefford woman

Actress Katherine Howard, aged 32, died following a car crash in Chieveley on February 26.
Last Thursday, October 10, a 70-year-old London man appeared before Newbury magistrates in connection with the tragedy.
Michael William Challis, from Lister Road in Leytonstone, east London, appeared in court on crutches and was allowed to sit throughout the proceedings.
He spoke only to confirm his name, age and address and to acknowledge the charge of causing Mrs Howard’s death by dangerous driving.
His solicitor, Frances Anderson, indicated that her client would be denying the charge, which can only be heard by a judge and jury at a Crown court.
Presiding magistrate Stephen Greenhalgh told Mr Challis he was released on unconditional bail to appear at Reading Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on October 21.
Mrs Howard, whose maiden name was Gibbons, married husband Christopher Howard in June, 2011, moving to Great Shefford in 2012.
In August, a charity gig in Bucklebury was held in her name which helped her family raise more than £7,000 for the Meningitis Trust.
They chose the Meningitis Trust as Mrs Howard’s best friend died of the disease 13 years ago and it was a charity to which Mrs Howard regularly donated.
