Newbury man arrested after Reading assault




Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a Newbury man was arrested for assault in Reading.

This follows an incident at around 2.25am last Sunday, when a man and a woman in their twenties were punched by two men outside the Popworld nightclub in Friar Street.

The man suffered a broken jaw, while the woman sustained a cut lip.

Both victims were treated in hospital and have since been discharged.

A 27-year-old Newbury man - who has not been named - was arrested on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of cocaine.

Another 27-year-old man, from Reading, was arrested on on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and racially/religiously-aggravated intentional harassment.

The men have since been released on bail.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Maggie Bruce, based at Reading police station, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this incident, or who may have information about what happened to please come forward.
