Man arrested following sexual assault in Newbury

A 17-year-old woman was assaulted in an alleyway near Newbury Driving Test Centre off Newtown Road between 9pm and 10.30pm on Friday (8).
The victim, who was inappropriately touched by the offender, managed to push the man off and then ran away.
Police say that a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and sexual assault.
He has been released on bail to return to Newbury police station on June 30.
PC Nathan Adby, investigating the incident, said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area or who heard or saw anything around this time.”
“We would particularly like to speak to a woman who walked through the alleyway and spoke to the victim asking if she was OK. She then walked off towards Newtown Road.
“She is white with shoulder length dark hair, aged between 20-30 years old, about 5ft 5ins. She was wearing a white top and jeans.”
Police also want to hear from a man who was walking towards the A339 over-bridge from the direction of the Nightingales estate.
Anyone with any information that could assist the police investigation, should contact PC Adby via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
