Thames Valley Police have confirmed that a 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the murder of a teenager in Beenham in 1966.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed that a 64-year-old man has been arrested this morning (Tuesday) on suspicion of murder and has been taken to a police station in the Thames Valley area for questioning.

The arrest has been made by officers from the Force Major Crime Review Team, who are investigating the murder of 17-year-old Yolande Waddington, who was found strangled in the village of Beenham in October 1966.

Some of her clothes were found in a nearby barn and she had been strangled, stabbed and sexually assaulted, according to the Newbury Weekly News reports at the time.

Traces of blood, not of Yolande's blood group, were found near her body and following the murder, police received voluntary blood samples from every male in Beenham between the age of 16 and 50.
