Man arrested in town centre drama




Shoppers look on as man is detained outside bank

THERE was drama in Newbury town centre earlier this afternoon (Tuesday) after a man was arrested in the Market Place.

Thames Valley Police were called to the scene at about 1.47pm after receiving reports of a man attempting to gain entry to a security van in the town centre.

Stunned shoppers looked on as the man was wrestled the ground by police and detained in front of Barclays Bank.

He was held there as shoppers stared until more police vans and an ambulance arrived.

Police later confirmed that a man had been detained and was being questioned about an unspecified offence.
