Man arrested on suspected arson charge following Greenham flat fire

Crew manager of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Jason Cunningham, said two pumps from Newbury were called at around 11pm to a first floor flat fire in Bronte Rise.
On arrival, firefighters discovered sections of a door smouldering in a bath, after the householder had tried to extinguish the blaze using water from the shower head.
Firefighters fully extinguished the fire using a hosereel, then cleared smoke from the property using a high pressure ventilation fan.
The man was the only occupant of the flat and no-one was hurt.
Firefighters closed the incident at 12am.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman, Francine Rodrigues, said police were called by the fire service to the scene at 11.40pm.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.
