Police investigate public order incident at West Berkshire Council offices in Newbury




Police are investigating after a man threatened staff and councillors at West Berkshire Council’s office in Newbury.

Thames Valley Police confirmed it was investigating an incident of public order, which occurred last Friday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses report that a man was seen brandishing a bottle of whisky, which he then smashed, and started throwing bits of glass at passers by.

A 58-year-old man from Newbury was arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

He has been released on police bail until November 29 while investigations continue.
