The 31-year-old, of The Mead, Great Shefford, admitted assaulting a police officer on duty in Newbury on September 16 last year by beating him.

He denied being drunk and disorderly in public in Bodin Gardens, Newbury, on the same occasion and this charge was dismissed.

Magistrates told Mr Berry, who was legally represented by Robert Jacques, that they required pre-sentence reports.

They stipulated these should be prepared on an ‘all options’ basis, including custody.

Mr Berry was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
