The victim was approached between 9pm and 9.20pm on Sunday while walking in an alleyway off Bartholomew Street by the offender who punched and kicked him numerous times before two members of the public intervened.
The victim sustained minor injuries and sought hospital treatment. He has since been discharged.
Investigating officer PC Tobias Loughran said: “We are specifically appealing to the two members of the public from the Indigo Bay restaurant who intervened to please get in touch.
“We would also ask anyone who may have dash-cam footage or CCTV of the incident to please come forward.
