Man caught burying drug stash under tree

Officers were looking on

WHEN Alexandre Jose Rosas buried his drug stash beneath a tree, there was a problem – he was being watched by police.

The officers promptly dug up five bags of cannabis and arrested the 19-year-old, of Middle Close, Newbury.

Helen Gambrill, prosecuting at West Berkshire Magistrates’ Court at the end of January, said: “He admitted: ‘That’s my smoke’ but then gave a ‘no comment’ interview.”

Mr Rosas admitted possessing the Class B controlled drug on October 31 last year.

He has one previous, drug-related conviction.

Simon Hammudi, defending, said his client was a Newbury College student and part-time office cleaner who had bought the drugs to smoke himself.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered Mr Rosas to pay £85 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
