Man caught with drugs cocktail outside football club
'Job lot' cost £40, court hears
POLICE caught a man with a cocktail of illegal drugs outside Newbury Football Club.
Helen Waite, prosecuting, told town magistrates on Thursday, October 22, how officers came across Shawn Michael Kelly sitting on the ground outside the Faraday Road clubhouse with a female companion at 3am.
She added: “There was smoking paraphernalia all around them.”
A subsequent search revealed the 42-year-old, of no fixed address, had a range of drugs on him.
Mr Kelly admitted possessing the Class B drugs cannabis resin, amphetamines and mephedrone, also known as M-Cat or Meow, on September 2.
Mike Davis, defending, said his client had bought the drugs as a “job lot” for £40 and added: “He and his partner have been living in a tent in Newbury for some time.”
However, he added, there was hope of a hostel home for them in the near future.
Magistrates bailed Mr Kelly, who has previous convictions for drug offences, until November 12 while pre-sentence reports are prepared.
