Man charged with possession of sharp object on canal towpath




Heavy police presence on Faraday Road entrance yesterday (Tues)

A NINETEEN-year-old man has been charged with possession of a sharp object in a public place after being searched by police on the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath on Tuesday.

Around 10 police officers, with some police dogs, were sent to the towpath at Faraday Road, Newbury, shortly before 4pm.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said that a 19-year-old man, of a Newbury address, had been charged with with possession of a knife blade, sharp point article in a public place.

He was remanded to appear at Reading Magistrates Court today (Wednesday).
