Reading Magistrates' Court: Calcot man charged with tormenting and strangling victim
A MAN has been sent, in custody, to the crown court charged with tormenting, strangling and robbing a woman over a nine-month period.
In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 14, was Daniel Excell.
The 35-year-old, of Glyme Walk, Calcot, stands accused of a catalogue of violent and coercive behaviour towards the same alleged victim.
The charges are as follows:
* Intentional strangulation
* Three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm
* Controlling, coercive behaviour by violence, by financial control and by monitoring her movement and phone calls
* Robbing her of her personal property
* Theft
* Threatening to burn her house down
* Assault by beating
* Stealing from her
All the above offences are said to have been committed in Calcot between January 1 and Sunday, September 18.
District judge Samuel Goozee sent all the matters to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury.
Mr Excell was meanwhile refused bail and was remanded in custody.
