The 46-year-old, of Park Way, Newbury, was charged with causing up to £5,000 worth of damage to the metalwork of the boat, belonging to Michael Groocock, in Newbury on Monday, March 6.

He was further accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards Mr Groocock, thereby causing him harassment, alarm or distress, on the same occasion.

He denied both charges and the case was adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

Mr Cleverley was subsequently cleared of both.
