Man climbs through windscreen in lucky escape from A34 Tothill accident
4 x 4 crashes through barrier and rolls
A MAN climbed through the smashed windscreen of a vehicle which rolled after it crashed into the A34 central reservation near Burghclere yesterday (Wednesday).
The incident was the second crash on the same stretch of road in a week.
One fire engine from Newbury was called at about 7.30pm to the A34 northbound, approx half a mile from Tothill, where a man driving a 4x4 southbound had crashed into the central reservation.
The vehicle then rolled and ended up in a northbound direction, narrowly missing traffic, according to firefighters at the scene.
The male driver, the sole occupant in the single vehicle collision, then climbed out the smashed windscreen to exit the vehicle.
The man was taken to hospital for checks, but believed to be unhurt.
One lane of the A34 northbound was closed during the incident.
Firefighters left after 45 minutes.
The incident was the second accident involving a crash on the stretch of road in a week.
Last Sunday (May 22), the A34 northbound near Tothill was temporarily closed, after a Fiat 500 left the road and span into a verge, with the woman driver taken to hospital .
