The 48-year-old, of The Millards, Kintbury, admitted assaulting Krisztian Kiraly by beating him.

He further admitted assaulting Satwinderpal Singh by beating him.

Mr McClaren then pleaded guilty to stealing bottles of wine together worth £16 from Tesco and a second charge of stealing wine from Tesco, this time worth £8.

Finally, he admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause Grant Harmsworth, Maisie Taylor and others harassment, alarm or distress.

All the above offences were committed in Newbury on May 23 last year.

Mr McClaren, who was legally represented at the hearing by Simon Hammudi, was told the case was being adjourned for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

District judge Samuel Goozee told him these would be prepared on an ‘all options’ basis, including custody.

Mr McClaren was meanwhile released on bail with conditions.
