Reading Magistrates' Court: Newbury man denies assault and weapon charges
A MAN has appeared in court charged with attacking a woman and having a metal pole as an offensive weapon.
Jason Benson appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 13.
The 46-year-old, of Newtown Road, Newbury, denies all the charges facing him.
Mr Benson is accused of assaulting assaulting Yasmin Durrant by beating her.
He is further accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards her.
Finally, Mr Benson is charged with had with him in a public place, namely at an address in Bodin Gardens, an offensive weapon - specifically, a metal pole.
All the above offences were said to have been committed in Newbury on June 30 last year.
Mr Benson, who was legally represented by Tom Brymer, spoke only to confirm his details, to deny each charge and to elect trial at the magistrates' court rather than the crown court.
He was told the case could proceed no further that day and all matters were adjourned for a trial to be arranged.
Mr Benson was meanwhile granted unconditional bail.
