The 31-year-old, of The Mead, Great Shefford, is charged with assaulting a police officer in Newbury on Saturday, September 19.

He is further charged with being drunk and disorderly on the same occasion.

Mr Berry, who was legally represented at the hearing by Jo Benn, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to both charges.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

Mr Berry was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
