The 41-year-old, of Padworth Road, Burghfield Common, is charged with intentionally touching a woman, that touching being of a sexual nature, when she did not consent and when he did not reasonably believe she was consenting.

The offence is said to have happened in the Reading postal region on a specific date in January this year.

Mr Charlton, who was legally represented by Mason Waker, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

District judge Samuel Goozee meanwhile denied Mr Charlton bail and remanded him in custody.
