Man dies following suspected hazardous materials incident in Newbury

Ambulance crews were called at 1.20pm to M & T Motor Co in Kingsbridge Road to attend to a man who had suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.
Having taken him to hospital, two paramedics then suffered anaphylactic shocks and as a result police and specialist fire fighters cordoned off the area in Kingsbridge Road and ordered nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.
On Friday morning, Thames Valley Police confirmed the man had died.
Chief Supt. Andy Standen said officers were called shortly after 4pm to the garage in Newbury.
“There is an investigation into a death, which we do not consider to be suspicious.
“Officers will be on scene later this morning with Health and Safety Executive officers to establish if there were any contributing factors into the man’s death at the workplace.”
According to Simon Jefferies, group manager for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, around 20 firefighters were called at around 5pm.
Fire crews at the scene included a multi roll command unit, hazardous material vehicle, specialist officers, including a hazardous materials officer, along with specialist teams from the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The area was cordoned off, but the road remained open throughout.
The RBFRS closed the incident at 8.07pm on Thursday (Dec 20).
James Keating-Wilkes, a spokesman for South Central Ambulance, confirmed that initially, ambulance services were called at 1.20pm, to attend to the 60-year-old man with a suspected cardiac arrest.
Two double crewed ambulances were sent and the man was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in Reading.
However on arrival, both paramedics were found to be suffering from anaphylactic shock and both were admitted to the hospital. One was released shortly afterwards and the other at around 8pm. The ambulance service then alerted the police and fire service.
