Reading Magistrates' Court: Donnington man exposed as rail cheat
A RAIL cheat has been landed with a £441 bill – for trying to dodge a £7 rail fare.
On Friday, April 29, Reading magistrates dealt with the case against Ashton Coker.
The 26-year-old, of Dene Way, had been due to answer the charge but did not turn up.
The case proceeded in his absence and he was convicted.
Specifically, the court found Mr Coker guilty of travelling on a Great Western Railway (GWR) service at Reading on November 2 last year without having paid the £7 fare, and with the intent of evading the payment.
He was fined £220.
In addition Mr Coker was ordered to pay £180 costs plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £34.
Finally, he was required to pay GWR £7 in compensation for the lost rail fare.
