The case nevertheless proceeded in his absence and was found proved.

Specifically, Mr Louis was convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway (GWR) service at Reading West on Wednesday, January 26, without having paid his £7.30 fare and with the intention of evading it.

He was fined £220.

Finally, Mr Louis was required to pay £7.30 to GWR in compensation for the lost fare.
