Reading Magistrates' Court: Thatcham man is rail cheat
A MAN has been landed with a £440 bill – for trying to cheat on a £7.30 rail fare.
Kyle Louis was due to answer the charge at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 10.
But the 26-year-old, of Hussars Drive, Thatcham, did not turn up.
The case nevertheless proceeded in his absence and was found proved.
Specifically, Mr Louis was convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway (GWR) service at Reading West on Wednesday, January 26, without having paid his £7.30 fare and with the intention of evading it.
He was fined £220.
In addition, Mr Louis was ordered to pay £180 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £34.
Finally, Mr Louis was required to pay £7.30 to GWR in compensation for the lost fare.
