Newbury man Kieran Newey faces stalking charge

A MAN has appeared in court on a serious stalking charge.

Kieran Newey appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 29.

The 22-year-old, of Oxford Road, Newbury, is accused of stalking Geraldine Ley in Berkshire between August 2 and October 26 last year, thereby causing her serious alarm or distress, by sending numerous unwanted, hurtful and obsessive messages when he was aware that she did not want this contact.

Magistrates adjourned the case until a later date, while the possibility of changing the accusation to a less serious stalking charge is considered.

Mr Newey was meanwhile released on conditional bail.
