The 56-year-old, of Stephens Firs, Mortimer, is also accused of attempted burglary.

In all, Mr Bozarth is charged with rape, sexual assault, stalking a woman thereby causing her to be put in fear of violence by attending her home and watching her from nearby, of trying to burgle her home and of causing damage to property.

All the above offences were said to have happened in the Reading postal area on various, specific dates this year.

Mr Bozarth, who was legally represented at the preliminary hearing by Gianpaolo Damiani, was told all the above matters were being sent to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

District judge Samuel Goozee meanwhile declined to grant him bail and instead remanded him in custody.
