Mr Cripps is further charged with burgling homes in Reading Road and Croft Road in Goring, in Clevedon Road, Normanstead Road, Carlisle Road, Hildens Drive and Overdown Road in Tilehurst and in Oak Tree Road in Reading.

All 11 offences were said to have been committed on various dates between February and April this year and involved the theft of thousands of pounds in cash plus assorted jewellery and a power tool.

District judge Kathryn Verghis declined further jurisdiction and sent all the above matters to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury.

Mr Cripps will be expected to enter pleas at the next hearing.

He was meanwhile refused bail and was remanded in custody.
