Man fled after punching doorman
In the dock on Thursday, October 10, was 21-year-old Oliver Dopson of The Frances, Thatcham.
Victoria Griffiths, prosecuting, said Mr Dopson’s behaviour in the Snooty Fox pub in Bartholomew Street caused door staff to eject him.
She added: “He returned an hour later and, when he was refused entry, he clenched his fist and punched a doorman in the face. He then ran off down the street when the doorman gave chase and hid himself.”
Police later found Mr Dopson cowering in a nearby alley, the court heard.
Mr Dopson admitted assaulting Ben Thompson by beating him on July 13 this year.
He also admitted that the offence meant he was in breach of a suspended 48 week prison sentence imposed earlier by a Crown court.
Mike Davis, defending, said his client had been celebrating a successful job interview and had continued drinking into the early hours.
He said it had not been a sustained attack and that the doorman had suffered minimal injury.
Magistrates fined Mr Dopson £300 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
They also ordered him to pay Mr Johnson £50 compensation.
In addition, they said the Crown court will be notified that Mr Dopson had committed a further offence while subject to the suspended sentence, and that a judge would have to decide whether or not to activate it.
