The 32-year-old, of Beancroft Road, Thatcham, was accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause Leo Gibbs harassment, alarm or distress in Thatcham on Thursday, June 1 – an offence he denied.

At Friday’s hearing, this charge was withdrawn.

Instead, Mr Pegg was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, on the same occasion, within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.

Mr Pegg admitted that offence.

He was fined £450.

In addition, Mr Pegg was ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Finally, he was ordered to pay £85 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £90.
