Man has ban on drinking in Newbury town centre extended
A MAN has had a ban on drinking, shouting and swearing in Newbury town centre extended.
Peter Kelly, 51, of London Road, Newbury, was issued with a renewed Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after appearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 21.
Mr Kelly had initially been issued with a CBO on July 24, 2018, after being drunk and disorderly in Newtown Road, shouting at people and running into the street.
The CBO has now been extended as during the initial term, Mr Kelly breached the order multiple times.
The order, which is in place for three years, prohibits Mr Kelly from consuming alcohol or being in possession of an open container of alcohol in Newbury town centre.
He is also prevented from shouting, swearing or using threatening language to people, including police officers and police community support officers.
Investigating officer, PC Jon Bradford from Newbury Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This hopefully sends out a message that this kind of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Newbury.
“The extension of Kelly’s CBO is required to protect the public and the police from his persistent anti-social behaviour.
“I would also ask that if anyone witnesses any anti-social behaviour, it is reported to the local neighbourhood team via 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
