The 33-year-old, of College Piece, Mortimer, is accused of robbing Co-op employee Chris Banks of £385 cash.

He is further charged with possessing a Stanley knife, stealing £20 worth of alcohol and damaging six bottles of wine together worth £33, all on the same occasion.

Magistrates declined to give Mr Hearn bail and sent all the above matters to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury on a date to be fixed.
