Man in critical condition following Tilehurst brawl





Thames Valley Police were called at 12.25am, to reports of a fight outside the Prince of Wales Pub, in the Triangle, Tilehurst, involving about 20 people.
On arrival, officers discovered a 52-year-old man receiving treatment from paramedics for a serious head injury.
The victim was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and has since been transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
His condition is described as critical.
Officers arrested a 26-year-old man from his home in Tilehurst at about 2.45am this morning on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).
He remains in police custody.
A scene watch was put in place and School Road was closed for more than 10 hours while investigations took place.
Ds Chris Ward, who investigated the incident, said: “The investigation is at an early stage, however it appears the victim was attacked outside the pub and as a result is seriously ill in hospital.
“One man has been arrested and a number of enquiries are underway.
“There were a lot of people in the area at the time of the assault and I would urge them, or anyone with any information about the incident, to contact me.”
