TWO men have been sent, in custody, to the Crown Court charged with robbing a betting shop.

In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 4, was Kerron Andrew Annetts, who also uses the first name Keiron.

The 41-year-old, of Stokes Farm, Paices Hill, Aldermaston, is accused of robbing Betfred in Coronation Square, Reading, of £200 in cash on Monday, May 31.

He is further accused of possessing an imitation firearm on the same occasion, namely a black hand gun, with intent to cause Carol Pritchard to

believe that unlawful violence would be used against her.

A 46-year-old alleged accomplice, Simon Nicholas Bampton of Russell Street, Reading, is also accused of robbing the same premises of £200 on the same occasion.

Both men, who were individually legally represented at the preliminary hearing, were told that the robbery charges were so serious that they can only be dealt with by a judge sitting at a Crown Court and, in the event of a not guilty plea, by a jury.

The case was therefore adjourned for a case management hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Both men were meanwhile denied bail and were remanded in custody.
