The 58-year-old, of Parsons Close, Newbury, is accused of intimidating Natasha Lloyd, knowing or believing she was a witness in legal proceedings, by asking her to drop the charges, thereby obstructing or perverting the course of justice, in Newbury on Wednesday, October 23.

Mr McKay spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the single charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further and would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

District judge Samuel Goozee meanwhile denied Mr McKay bail and remanded him in custody.
