Thames Valley Police appealing for witnesses to Newbury Sainsbury's assault




Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 70s was assaulted by a boy in Sainsbury’s last month.

At around 7.45pm on Tuesday, July 5, the victim was approached from behind by the offender, a boy believed to be in his teens, at the entrance of Sainsbury’s in Hectors Way, Newbury.

The boy is reported to have kicked the man from behind, who then fell to the floor, causing him to fracture his hip.

Investigating officer PC Grant Summersbee is asking anyone who saw the incident to get in touch via 101 or online quoting reference 43220295788.

He said: “If you do not wish to speak to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The victim attended hospital following the incident, but has since been discharged.

Nothing was stolen from the victim during the assault.
