Man jailed for child sex offences

Jury convicts Tilehurst man of catalogue of charges

A TWENTY-seven-year-old Tilehurst man has been jailed for child sex offences.

Tyrone Barker, who lived at Maiwand Gardens, was sentenced on Friday to 14 years' imprisonment for sexually abusing a young boy.

Barker was convicted following a two-week trial of 11 counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child.

The investigating officer, Det Sgt Sarah-Jayne Beedall, said afterwards: “Tyrone Barker is a controlling and dangerous individual who preyed on his victim repeatedly.

“Despite being subjected to a horrifying catalogue of sexual offences, the victim has shown great bravery and dignity not only in coming forward to report the crimes, but throughout the police investigation and trial.”

She added: “I commend him for his ongoing courage and I hope the fact he has found the strength to come forward to report these incidents will inspire other victims of sexual abuse to speak out.”
