Man jailed for five years after causing the death of Thatcham man

Widow of retired ambulance driver tells of the long lasting affects, the death has had upon her family

The widow of a Thatcham man who died in a 2013 truck crash has spoken of the devastating effects upon her family, after the man found guilty of his death by dangerous driving was today (Wednesday) jailed for five years.

Adam Lipowski, aged 42, of Walmer Close, Tilehurst in Reading, was found guilty in March after a week-long trial, where it was established he was using a mobile telephone at the time of the collision and according to a Thames Valley Police (TVP) statement today (May 6).

He has today been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving and was disqualified from driving for five years.

On September 11, 2013, Lipwoski was driving a 15-tonne Mercedes refuse truck on the A4074 towards Reading, when he failed to see a Black Subaru which was waiting to turn into the entrance of Oratory School in Woodcote.

He braked at the last minute, but collided with the Subaru car at 36 mph, killing the front seat passenger, 56-year-old Andrew Evans and seriously injuring his passenger, Michael Jennings, a Hungerford tragedy survivor, who suffered brain damage and other serious injuries in the collision.

Mr Evans' widow, Sally Evans, has spoken of her sorrow and the long lasting effects upon her children, grandchildren and herself, following the death of her husband, a retired ambulance driver, and including a warning to those tempted to use a mobile telephone whilst driving.
