Thatcham man Stuart Coventry jailed for making threats
A man who made threats has been jailed.
Stuart Coventry appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 7.
The 39-year-old, of Stoney Lane, Thatcham, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intent of causing Jill Lamb harassment, alarm or distress in Thatcham on December 19 last year.
He also admitted stealing a carpet cleaner and binoculars, together worth £420, in Thatcham between December 14 and 15 last year.
Magistrates ordered Coventry, who has numerous previous convictions, to pay £420 compensation to the owner of the stolen goods, in lieu of an otherwise statutory victim services surcharge.
No order was made for costs but he was required to pay Ms Lamb £100 compensation.
Finally, Coventry was jailed for eight weeks.
Magistrates said the immediate custodial sentence was necessary “because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for people and their property, has no remorse (and because of his) lack of response to previous sentences.”
