Matthew Holmes jailed for Newbury robbery
A MAN has been jailed for a violent robbery.
Matthew Holmes approached his victim, a man in his 40s, while he was walking on the overbridge of the A339 in Newbury.
Holmes demanded money from the victim and threatened him with violence if he did not comply.
He then pulled the man to the ground by his hoodie, dragged him along the bridge while kicking him and stole cash and cigarettes.
The victim sustained cuts to his hand.
Thirty-one-year-old Holmes, of Charles Street in Newbury, admitted committing robbery on September 11.
On Monday, October 28, he was sentenced to three years and three months imprisonment.
He will serve part of that behind bars and the remainder on licence in the community.
Afterwards the investigating officer, Det Con Molly Holland, based at Newbury police station, said: “This is a very positive outcome for the victim and will have positive effects on the community who should be able to walk around without the fear of being robbed.
“These types of offences leave long lasting impacts on victims and will not be tolerated.”
